Atanasio Girardot Unit | Medellín’s Sports Heart

The Unidad Deportiva Atanasio Girardot is the largest and most iconic athletic complex in Medellín. Located in the vibrant sector of Laureles—Estadio, it brings together sports, culture, and community in one impressive urban hub. The complex spans more than 300,000 m² and is fully integrated into the daily life of the city—sports events, concerts, recreation, and public wellness activities happen here year-round.
At the center of the complex stands the Estadio Atanasio Girardot, home to Medellín’s top football clubs and one of the most famous stadiums in Colombia. While Guatapé is not located within Medellín itself—it lies about 79 km (49 miles) east of the city, roughly a 1.5–2 hour drive—it is considered one of the most iconic and colorful destinations in the Antioquia region and a must-visit for anyone attending the IIHS World Series 2026.
